What are the most frequent questions asked about dental implants?

How long do Dental Implants last?

We have asked Dr Stephen Jacobs of Dental FX in Glasgow about his experience with dental implants patients and what the most common questions he is asked by his patients about the procedure?

The two main questions that dental patients asked me about whether dental implants are “What is the success rate?” and “How long will they last?”

Question – What is the success rate of dental implants?

In short the answer is that while every dental procedure comes with failure risk, luckily this happens very infrequently. Factors that contribute to the failure rate of implants depends on whether they are secure into natural bone or grafted, their location in the mouth and whether the person is a smoker. Statisically a smokers failure rate is 2.5 times more likely to have a dental failure than someone who doesn’t.

Question – “How long will a dental implant last for?

The answer to this question is even shorter – we honestly don’t know. What we do know that best way to extent the longevity of a dental implants to have to keep up scrupulous oral hygiene, and evaluate the dental implant both clinically and radio-graphically at your regular visit with your dentist.
